Defined benefit (DB) scheme running cost research

The Pensions Regulator commissioned IFF Research to undertake quantitative research to better understand the costs of administering defined benefit (DB) pension schemes. A total of 316 private sector schemes, which are the focus on this report, completed the survey.

The research was undertaken between 12 September 2013 and 1
November 2013 and used an online self-completion questionnaire to collect cost information on the following seven cost areas:
Administration;
Independent trustee fees;
Actuarial;
Legal;
Covenant;
Investment;
Other external costs not included above.
